The BBQ on the River and Fly In contest was started on a vacant lot in 2001 as a fun way to involve barbecue enthusiasts  and the community in our fundraising efforts.  The first annual contest consisted of 2 committee members and 13 teams.  Now in our 11^th year, we have grown to 22 committee members and over 70 teams.  The BBQ committee works hard year around to raise money to improve our community,  provide a fun, safe atmosphere for our BBQ teams to compete, and to allow spectators to visit with the “best of the best”.

Money raised from the contest have provided funds to help purchase a skate park, a community park, expansion of the Historical Museum, funds for the Athletic Department, and 2 Excelsior Springs emergency vehicles for the fire and police departments.  Over the years, as we have grown, we have also been able to provide several local students with scholarships.

Our committee consists of dedicated local residents that have a love of BBQ, competition, and community.  Whether you are a contestant, judge, spectator, or sponsor, we would like to thank you in advance for your participation in this fun-filled family event.
